Between arts and sciences: an exchange surface?

Séminaire ECOBIO - Agnès Schermann (Ecobio)

The arts and sciences are two fields of activity that interest and occupy widely different audiences today. However, for a long time now, artists have been circulating between the different fields of human activity, striving to create surfaces of exchange in order to produce "thought experiments" as Bruno Latour1 has described them. Thought experiments, emotions, awareness... this is what we need at present if our work in ecology is not to remain a dead letter. The dissemination of the methods, results and limits of science in society is crucial, especially in the context of the urgent need to react collectively to global change. The meeting of arts and sciences offers new possibilities for raising awareness. I will present the work I have done within an arts and sciences collective, and propose a discussion on the place of the arts in scientific practice.
